Living Together Differently
We tend to gravitate toward people who are most like us, at least in the ways that make us feel comfortable. But life has its way of bringing us into contact with people who challenge us with their differences. It may be an obvious difference reflected in their outward appearance or an invisible but powerful philosophical stance. Even in our closest circle of friends and family, though, there are those that confront us with their different ways of experiencing and expressing life. We can choose to resist, but we can also choose to learn from them and appreciate that they too have a place in the kaleidoscope of life.
As much as we may say that we want peace and quiet and a life without struggle, the truth is that human beings are currently thriving in a world of dualities and challenges. It is how we choose to approach these hurdles that determine if we sail over them, confirming our agility, or trip and end up face down in the dust. And each of us absolutely will and must stumble, and then get up, brush the dust off, and carry on. This is how we learn and grow, developing depth of character and shades of understanding. In a world of dualities, we have trouble defining ourselves without something opposite and can’t discover who we are. Without challenge, there is nothing to do and nothing to discover. That leaves us either in a state of nonbeing or in the state of pure spirit, but as humans, we are spiritual beings experiencing the physical world in all of its startling contrast and beauty.
No matter how spiritual we are, our lives will have challenges. We will always run into people that are different from us, but the true challenge may be in finding ways to be at peace with this process.
Rather than give in to the fight-or-flight response that comes from our animal nature, we can find new ways to evolve together into higher, more beautiful expressions of ourselves, realizing, embracing, and celebrating the beauty of diversity and the strength it offers for the future.

The Empress/ energy of the Great MOTHER

Traditionally entitled "Empress," this major arcana or "trump" card portrays the energy of the Great Mother। She is Nature, around us but also within us, the ever-unfolding Source of life-giving power. Praise to the emptiness that blanks out existence. Existence: this place made from our love for that emptiness!
Yet somehow comes emptiness,
this existence goes.
Praise to that happening, over and over!
For years I pulled my own existence out of emptiness.
Then one swoop, one swing of the arm,
that work is over.
Free of who I was, free of presence, free of
dangerous fear, hope,
free of mountainous waiting.
The here-and-now mountain is tiny piece of piece of straw
blown off into emptiness.
These words I'm saying so much begin to lose meaning:
Existence, emptiness, mountain, straw:
Words and what they try to say swept
out the window,down the slat of the roof.

Conta-se que por volta do ano 250 A.C, na China antiga, um príncipe da região norte do país, estava as vésperas de ser coroado imperador, mas, de acordo com a lei, ele deveria se casar. Sabendo disso, ele resolveu fazer uma "disputa" entre as moças da corte ou quem quer que se achasse digna de sua proposta.
No dia seguinte, o príncipe anunciou que receberia, numa celebração especial, todas as pretendentes e lançaria um desafio.
Uma velha senhora, serva do palácio há muitos anos, ouvindo os comentários sobre os preparativos, sentiu uma leve tristeza, pois sabia que sua jovem filha nutria um sentimento de profundo amor pelo príncipe.
Ao chegar em casa e relatar o fato a jovem, espantou-se ao saber que ela pretendia ir a celebração, e indagou incrédula:
- Estarão presentes todas as mais belas e ricas moças da corte. Tire esta idéia insensata da cabeça, eu sei que você deve estar sofrendo, mas não torne o sofrimento uma loucura.
E a filha respondeu:
- Não, querida mãe, não estou sofrendo e muito menos louca, eu sei que jamais poderei ser a escolhida, mas é minha oportunidade de ficar pelo menos alguns momentos perto do príncipe, e isto já me torna feliz.
À noite, a jovem chegou ao palácio. Lá estavam, de fato, todas as mais belas moças, com as mais belas roupas, as mais belas jóias e as mais determinadas intenções.
Então, finalmente, o príncipe anunciou o desafio:
- Darei a cada uma de vocês uma semente. Aquela que, dentro de seis meses, me trouxer a mais bela flor, será escolhida minha esposa e futura imperatriz da China.
A proposta do príncipe não fugiu as profundas tradições daquele povo, que valorizava muito a especialidade de "cultivar" algo, sejam costumes, amizades, relacionamentos, etc...
O tempo passou e a doce jovem, como não tinha muita habilidade nas artes da jardinagem, cuidava com muita paciência e ternura a sua semente, pois sabia que se a beleza da flor surgisse na mesma extensão de seu amor, ela não precisava se preocupar com o resultado.
Passaram-se três meses e nada surgiu. A jovem tudo tentara, usara de todos os métodos que conhecia, mas nada havia nascido.
Dia após dia ela percebia cada vez mais longe o seu sonho, mas cada vez mais profundo o seu amor. Por fim, os seis meses haviam passado e nada havia brotado. Consciente do seu esforço e dedicação a moça comunicou a sua mãe que, independente das circunstâncias, retornaria ao palácio, na data e hora combinadas, pois não pretendia nada além de mais alguns momentos na companhia do príncipe.
Na hora marcada estava lá, com seu vaso vazio, bem como todas as outras pretendentes, cada uma com uma flor mais bela do que a outra, das mais variadas formas e cores. Ela estava admirada, nunca havia presenciado tão bela cena.
Finalmente chega o momento esperado e o príncipe observa cada uma das pretendentes com muito cuidado e atenção.
Após passar por todas, uma a uma, ele anuncia o resultado e indica a bela jovem como sua futura esposa.
As pessoas presentes tiveram as mais inesperadas reações. Ninguém compreendeu porque ele havia escolhido justamente aquela que nada havia cultivado ?

- Esta foi a única que cultivou a flor que a tornou digna de se tornar uma imperatriz. A flor da honestidade, pois todas as sementes que entreguei eram estéreis.

Honesty Is Best
As children most of us learn that honesty is better than dishonesty, and we may not question this beyond whether or not to do what we’re told. As adults, however, we can go deeper to examine our choices as investments of energy with predictable risks and returns. When we speak the truth, we affirm what already is. This is like using a paddle when the stream is already moving the same direction.
We are already supported by the universe and its energy flow, so we don’t need to exert much energy, leaving more for other pursuits. But dishonesty redirects a portion of our energy against the flow, which requires extra effort. In addition, it creates an alternate reality that requires further energetic input to be maintained. So we can easily see that we are best served when we work with the flow of the universe.
Life is not always clearly defined, so we may find it useful to follow our choices to their logical conclusions. We may feel that little untruths are harmless, but they can be like small cracks that weaken an overall structure over time. Even giving someone a compliment or trying to protect them can create problems later when the alternate reality we’ve created becomes the basis for further actions. Even if the actions that follow are honestly done, the underlying unstable foundation of dishonesty will threaten to topple things eventually. This can lead to further energy being spent on keeping things hidden, working to remember the tales we’ve spun and fearing the consequences of being found out. Life doesn’t need to be this draining, but we can make the choice to free ourselves from the bonds of dishonesty at any time.
Speaking and living our truth may involve risking, among other things, the possibility of rejection. But when we allow ourselves to follow the flow of life, we are supported. We can then use our energy to cultivate physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being and to create our dreams, rather than leaving ourselves too drained to even maintain our existence.
Today we can make honesty our choice in every interaction, bringing the nurturing power of the universe’s energy into our lives to bring positive, lasting results.
